This year the message from our president, Cathy Conley, R.N., arrived in the form of information on other honorable members of our association. In true presidential fashion she preferred to talk about others’ accomplishments rather than her own. Cathy made a huge contribution to our association last year as V.P. organizing an excellent symposium while faced with incredible odds. We all remember our keynote speaker, Dr. Jeff Marsh delivering his address via teleconference due to a last minute broken leg. Cathy is a master of organization and pulled the event off without a hitch! Thank you, Cathy.
In January 2004 at the annual winter symposium FCPA honored one of its own, Dr. Gerald Francati of St. Petersburg, FL. He received the Honors of the Association for many years of service to the association, to children with craniofacial diagnoses, to CMS / All Children’s Hospital Craniofacial Team and to teaching at UF in Gainesville. Payment, or lack thereof, has never stopped Jerry from helping someone. Congratulations to Dr. Francati, the consummate professional, mentor and friend.
In March 2004 at the annual ACPA convention in Chicago Dr. Leonard Furlow received the Honors of the Association from ACPA. Dr. Furlow received this highest expression of respect and gratitude from ACPA for his long career in plastic surgery (1964-present). He has been assistant professor and then professor at UF in Gainesville since 1967. He has trained countless plastic surgery residents and volunteered his services to many overseas cleft care missions. He is widely published and well known for developing the Furlow Z-plasty surgical treatment. Dr. Furlow’s humility, kindness and concern for quality care has permeated his illustrious career. Congratulations Dr. Furlow!
